Twin-Lakes
is an aptly named community in central Colorado that lies adjacent to two natural lakes at the foot of Colorado's highest peak, Mt. Elbert. Just 36 miles east of Aspen, the historic town of Twin Lakes was once a hub of activity for the miners of the area. Today, it's one of the most scenic mountain towns in Colorado, ideal for fishing and other outdoor sports. The town of Twin Lakes sits along the "Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway," which offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the United States. Independence Pass, which is the highest paved mountain pass in the state, is located very nearby. The natural beauty of the area is unsurpassed. The naturally formed "twin" glacial lakes are surrounded by mountain peaks that are over 14000 feet high. Year-round activities range from fishing and boating to mountain climbing, hiking, golf, skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling. With all of the natural beauty surrounding Twin Lakes, scenic drives and photographic opportunities abound. Another unique experience in the Twin Lakes area is to visit one of the nearby hot springs resort-spas. The Native Americans fiercely believed the hot mineral springs nestled in the Rockies were sacred and capable of great healing properties - cleansing the body, mind and spirit. Twin Lakes Weather & Climate

Central Colorado has a more complex climate than most states in the United States. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely different weather depending on the topography of the area. The valleys are classified as a semi-arid, continental climate, which becomes a mountain or alpine climate at higher elevations. Humid microclimates may also exist in some places. Abundant sunshine and low humidity is typical in all areas. Summers are mild to warm, and thunderstorms can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters are cold and snowy, especially in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Solar radiation penetrates the thin atmosphere high in the mountains, which results in very pleasant temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers are often pictured in very light clothing, even though they're surrounded by snow.
