Woody-Creek
is a tiny town located in Pitkin County in west-central Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley. As of the 2010 census, the population was 263 residents. The town sits at the northwest end of a valley that stretches southeast along the Roaring Fork River to Aspen. It lies in a undeveloped, but very scenic area of the state. The town of Woody Creek is quite well-known for its' town tavern. At one time, Woody Creek Tavern was mostly frequented by locals, but now it's become a place where tourists and even celebrities hang out. They come for the good food and comfortable atmosphere that's described as "a place to let down one's hair and have a great time." Lots of people visit from nearby Aspen (there is a shuttle that goes back and forth, especially convenient for those who indulge in the tavern's fantastic margaritas.) The menu offers up other things like nachos, enchiladas, burritos, cheeseburgers, green chili pork, plus - they're known for their brownies ala mode. The rest of the town mostly consists of a trailer park and several homes that range from modest to upscale. Woody Creek has been the home of several celebrities, including author Hunter S. Thompson, broadcaster Ed Bradley, actor Don Johnson, and Nancy Pelosi, who was the 60th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011.

Woody Creek Weather & Climate

Central Colorado has a more complex climate than most states in the United States. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely different weather depending on the topography of the area. The valleys are classified as a semi-arid, continental climate, which becomes a mountain or alpine climate at higher elevations. Humid microclimates may also exist in some places. Abundant sunshine and low humidity is typical in all areas. Summers are mild to warm, and thunderstorms can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters are cold and snowy, especially in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Solar radiation penetrates the thin atmosphere high in the mountains, which results in very pleasant temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers are often pictured in very light clothing, even though they're surrounded by snow.
