Meredith
is a tiny community of 100 residents, located just one mile east of Reudi Reservoir in Pitkin County, Northwest Colorado. Just 12 miles north of Aspen and 14 miles east of Basalt, and with close proximity to the White National Forest, Meredith is a relaxing place to spend a day on the water fishing and boating, go camping, or just relax away from the stress of crowds and noise. Located in the Frying Pan River Valley off State Highway 82, Ruedi Reservoir boasts 997 acres of water for recreational fun. The reservoir offers swimming, fishing and boating. Extreme cold temperatures keep the reservoir closed during the winter months. The weather in the area is unpredictable - temperatures can vary 40 degrees in the course of one day, so come prepared. The arid, desert-like climate is hot during the day, but cool during the evening. Flowing into the reservoir is the Frying Pan River, an excellent place for catch and release fishing, well known for its' rainbow trout (some as large as 10 pounds.) Hiking is available around the reservoir and experienced bikers will want to take the Rocky Fork Trail to Smuggler Valley Loop, which runs all the way to Aspen, Colorado. World class skiing and snowboarding is, of course, available in nearby Aspen.

Meredith Weather & Climate

Central Colorado has a more complex climate than most states in the United States. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely different weather depending on the topography of the area. The valleys are classified as a semi-arid, continental climate, which becomes a mountain or alpine climate at higher elevations. Humid microclimates may also exist in some places. Abundant sunshine and low humidity is typical in all areas. Summers are mild to warm, and thunderstorms can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters are cold and snowy, especially in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Solar radiation penetrates the thin atmosphere high in the mountains, which results in very pleasant temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers are often pictured in very light clothing, even though they're surrounded by snow.
