Kremmling
is a town in north-central Colorado on the upper Colorado River between Byers Canyon and Gore Canyon. The population is approximately 1,500. The town of Kremmling sits at the crossroads of Highway 9 and historic Highway 40, in the "heart of the high country" of Colorado. It was founded in 1881 during the Colorado silver boomtown days. A Mr. Rudolph Kremmling opened a general store for the miners on the north side of Muddy Creek. The town grew slowly at first, but after the arrival of the Denver, Northwestern & Pacific in 1906, Kremmling became the countys central shipping point. Today, the town of Kremmling sits in one of the most beautiful areas of the United States, near three national forests, and the Wolford Mountain Recreation Area. In addition, the Blue River, Colorado River and Muddy Creek all flow right through the town offering kayaking, rafting and fishing. The area is well-known for its' excellent fishing and the town hosts an annual ice-fishing tournament at Wolford Mountain Reservoir each February. Just a few of the other outdoor sports to enjoy in the area include hiking, horseback riding, camping, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. For those not athletically inclined, the snow-capped peaks and lush forests that surround Kremmling offer plenty of opportunities for scenic drives and photography.

Kremmling Weather & Climate

North-central Colorado has a continental highland or mountain climate. The combination of high elevation and no large body of water nearby results in a cool, dry climate. The temperature is mild in summer and humidity is low, even in the midst of summer. The thin atmosphere of the higher elevations allows greater penetration of solar radiation. This results in pleasant daytime temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers at high elevations are often pictured in very light clothing, although surrounded by heavy snow. Colorado also receives abundant sunshine throughout the year (an average of 300 days.) The temperatures drops rapidly in the mountains, and freezing temperatures are possible in some places every month of the year.
