Solvista
is a family ski area located approximately 90 miles northwest of Denver in the Winter Park/Grand Lake area. This resort offers 33 designated trails on 406 scenic acres. The "East Mountain" is good for beginners and intermediates, with long, well-groomed runs, and the "West Mountain" has steeper terrain for more advanced skiers. First time skiers have their own separate area that provides a non-intimidating atmosphere. Solvista also offers group and private lessons for skiers and riders of all ages and ability levels. Non-skiers can enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating, sledding or dog sled rides. Nearby Grand Lake is known for its numerous cross-country ski trails and has one of the largest snowmobile trail systems in the state. In summer, golf is available at the Solvista 18-hole golf course, with three other golf courses within a ten to twenty minute drive. Other summertime activities near Solvista include hiking, biking, fishing, horseback riding, boating, water skiing and other water sports. The village of Grand Lake has many shops and restaurants, and is host to several special events throughout the year, such as Western Week and the Grand Festival of Arts and Crafts. To reach Solvista from Denver, take Interstate 70 West to Exit 232, then Highway 40 West into Solvista.

Solvista Weather & Climate

North-central Colorado has a continental highland or mountain climate. The combination of high elevation and no large body of water nearby results in a cool, dry climate. The temperature is mild in summer and humidity is low, even in the midst of summer. The thin atmosphere of the higher elevations allows greater penetration of solar radiation. This results in pleasant daytime temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers at high elevations are often pictured in very light clothing, although surrounded by heavy snow. Colorado also receives abundant sunshine throughout the year (an average of 300 days.) The temperatures drops rapidly in the mountains, and freezing temperatures are possible in some places every month of the year.
