Lake-Agnes
is a crystal clear mountain lake located in north-central Colorado. It lies within the Colorado State Forest State Park, in the Never Summer Mountain Range. It's the deepest lake in the State Forest State Park and is surrounded by the Nokhu Crags, Static Peak, Mt. Richthofen, Mt. Mahler and another unnamed peak. The Never Summer Mountains are located along the northwest border of Rocky Mountain National Park. This mountain range is smaller than other ranges in the Rockies, covering only 25 square miles, with a north-south length of ten miles. The Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park offers a panoramic view of the Never Summer Mountains Range. State Forest State Park, where Lake Agnes is located, covers approximately 52,000 acres of parkland covered with douglas fir, Colorado blue spruce, aspen and other species. Wildlife inside the park includes moose, bighorn sheep, black bear, mule deer and elk - making it a nature lovers dream. There is a fishing pier in the park, picnicking facilities and 94 miles of hiking trails. Camping is also popular at Lake Agnes. The campground at the lake offers 32 electric sites and is directly accessible from Highway 14 and within a short walk of Ranger Lakes fishing areas. Altogether, however, the state park offers over 200 campsites and cabins.

North-central Colorado has a continental highland or mountain climate. The combination of high elevation and no large body of water nearby results in a cool, dry climate. The temperature is mild in summer and humidity is low, even in the midst of summer. The thin atmosphere of the higher elevations allows greater penetration of solar radiation. This results in pleasant daytime temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers at high elevations are often pictured in very light clothing, although surrounded by heavy snow. Colorado also receives abundant sunshine throughout the year (an average of 300 days.) The temperatures drops rapidly in the mountains, and freezing temperatures are possible in some places every month of the year.
