Lake-Granby
is the second-largest body of water in Colorado, located between the Winter Park ski area and Grand Lake, at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Lake Granby, along with Shadow Mountain Reservoir and Grand Lake, forms one continuous body of water. On its' own, Lake Granby offers 40 miles of scenic shoreline and excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow, brown and lake trout and kokanee salmon. Camping and hiking are also available around the lake, plus it offers easy access to the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park. To reach Lake Granby from Denver, take I-70 west to exit 232 (US 40). North on US 40 through to the town of Granby. On the west side of Granby, turn north at junction for US 34 north. Other things to do in the area include horseback riding, boating, rafting, mountain biking, skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and dog sledding. If you desire a day away from the lake, you can tour a five-star guest ranch, or enjoy a relaxing day at a hot mineral springs. Nearby, the city of Granby, called "The Real West," offers rodeos, cookouts, quaint shops and all kinds of restaurants. To reach Lake Granby from Denver, take I-70 west to exit 232 (US 40). Lake Granby Weather & Climate

North-central Colorado has a continental highland or mountain climate. The combination of high elevation and no large body of water nearby results in a cool, dry climate. The temperature is mild in summer and humidity is low, even in the midst of summer. The thin atmosphere of the higher elevations allows greater penetration of solar radiation. This results in pleasant daytime temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers at high elevations are often pictured in very light clothing, although surrounded by heavy snow. Colorado also receives abundant sunshine throughout the year (an average of 300 days.) The temperatures drops rapidly in the mountains, and freezing temperatures are possible in some places every month of the year.
