West-Vail
is a community located in Vail Valley, which is approximately 100 miles west of Denver on Interstate 70. This residential area, which has become popular with locals, as well as second-home owners, occupies a slightly wider section of the Valley than Vail Village and East Vail. The south side of West Vail features lushly wooded, alpine-like terrain interspersed with broad, rolling meadows. The north side is more exposed and offers dramatic views and an abundance of sunshine throughout the year. West Vail is divided into a number of close-knit neighborhoods that offer condominiums and elegant single-family homes. Vail Valley is known worldwide as one of Colorado's top ski destinations, but also offers year round activities. The valley is home to several ski resorts, including Vail, Beaver Creek, Cooper Mountain, Breckenridge, Keystone and A-Basin. If you don't ski, you can enjoy sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing or stay indoors and enjoy the breathtaking scenery beside a roaring fire, or with a good book. Nearby, the quaint village of Vail offers world class day spas, boutiques, antique stores, art galleries and fine dining. Summertime activities in the West Vail area include golf, hiking, biking, rock climbing, fishing, rafting and kayaking.

Northwestern Colorado is mostly mountainous, with some desert lands. Generally, the area has a highland mountain climate. Having the highest average elevation in the United States, combined with complex topography, results in dramatic climate changes from place to place. A general rule of thumb is the higher the elevation, the lower the temperature with an increase in precipitation. Northwest Colorado has a distinct four-season climate with cold, snowy winters and mild summers. In years when snow cover is heavy at high elevations, or when there is a sudden warming in the spring at high elevations, flooding may be a problem. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Hail is also common in the northwest part of the state. Autumn means crisp, dry days with lots of sunshine and cool nights.
