Copper-Mountain
is the site of a full service ski resort, located in Summit County approximately 75 miles west of Denver and 20 miles east of Vail. Known as "Colorado's Perfect Ski Mountain," Copper Mountain offers 2,450 acres of ski and snowboard terrain, as well as convenient lodging, shopping and dining. Other wintertime activities include tubing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Recent improvements totaling over 60 million dollars have taken place at Copper Mountain, including Colorado's first high-speed detachable six-passenger chairlift, dubbed the "Super Bee." There are 22 total lifts at Copper Mountain and 125 trails, 21% beginner, 25% intermediate, 36% advanced and 18% expert. This is not just a wintertime resort; there is also lots to do in the summer. Less crowded than in winter, visitors enjoy the many hiking and mountain biking trails that lead to the 14,000-foot summit at Copper Mountain. Other activities include fishing for trout, horseback riding, and rock climbing and canoeing one of the many lakes in the area. The Village at Copper Mountain offers world class events year long, such as concerts and festivals and special holiday celebrations. Fine dining and shopping are also available. Copper Mountain is easily accessible from both the Denver International Airport and Eagle County Airport, off Interstate 70 at Exit 195.

Copper Mountain Weather & Climate

Central Colorado has a more complex climate than most states in the United States. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely different weather depending on the topography of the area. The valleys are classified as a semi-arid, continental climate, which becomes a mountain or alpine climate at higher elevations. Humid microclimates may also exist in some places. Abundant sunshine and low humidity is typical in all areas. Summers are mild to warm, and thunderstorms can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters are cold and snowy, especially in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Solar radiation penetrates the thin atmosphere high in the mountains, which results in very pleasant temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers are often pictured in very light clothing, even though they're surrounded by snow.
