Edwards
is an unincorporated town located in Eagle County about twenty minutes west of Vail. The community was founded in the late 1800s by a Frenchman named Joseph Brett who came to the area for its' mining potential, but eventually established a resort here for executives traveling by train to Vail. As the Vail and Beaver Creek ski areas continued to grow, the town of Edwards became a "bedroom community" for resort employees. Today Edwards serves the needs of "down-valley" visitors and residents with its thriving business area and art galleries, theater, great shops and services. The community is known for its old-fashioned farmers' market that is held every Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., June through October 1st. The market is located in downtown Edwards and offers convenient onsite free parking. Farmers arrive early in the morning with refrigerated trucks full of freshly picked produce and organic fruits and vegetables. Specialty vendors offer freshly made pies, breads and pastries, and others offer Alaska salmon and Colorado beef, spices and condiments, jams, jellies, nuts, Kona coffee beans and much more. Edwards is only about 10 minutes to Beaver Creek and 20 minutes to the world class skiing at Vail. Other activities in the area include hiking, rock climbing, biking, golf, fishing and horseback riding.

Northwestern Colorado is mostly mountainous, with some desert lands. Generally, the area has a highland mountain climate. Having the highest average elevation in the United States, combined with complex topography, results in dramatic climate changes from place to place. A general rule of thumb is the higher the elevation, the lower the temperature with an increase in precipitation. Northwest Colorado has a distinct four-season climate with cold, snowy winters and mild summers. In years when snow cover is heavy at high elevations, or when there is a sudden warming in the spring at high elevations, flooding may be a problem. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Hail is also common in the northwest part of the state. Autumn means crisp, dry days with lots of sunshine and cool nights.
