Minturn
is a small town of just over 1,000 residents, located in Vail Valley between Vail and Beaver Creek. The oldest town in Vail Valley, Minturn offers galleries, great restaurants and several antique shops. The town is surrounded on three sides by the Holy Cross Wilderness, the White River National Forest and the Eagle River runs right through the community. Roughly 35 percent of the White River National Forest district is designated wilderness and includes major portions of the Holy Cross and Eagle's Nest Wilderness areas. Hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are just a few of the activities available in the National Forest. Five huts operated by the Tenth Mountain Hut Association, along with their associated trail systems, are found on the district. Camp Hale, a World War II winter training site now on the National Register of Historic Places, is situated toward the south end of the district. The Eagle River also provides endless outdoor recreational opportunities, such as fishing, rafting, kayaking and canoeing. Access to the river is available from several public access points along the Highway 24. Minturn is also just a five-minute drive to world class skiing at Vail and Beaver Creek.

Minturn Weather & Climate

Northwestern Colorado is mostly mountainous, with some desert lands. Generally, the area has a highland mountain climate. Having the highest average elevation in the United States, combined with complex topography, results in dramatic climate changes from place to place. A general rule of thumb is the higher the elevation, the lower the temperature with an increase in precipitation. Northwest Colorado has a distinct four-season climate with cold, snowy winters and mild summers. In years when snow cover is heavy at high elevations, or when there is a sudden warming in the spring at high elevations, flooding may be a problem. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Hail is also common in the northwest part of the state. Autumn means crisp, dry days with lots of sunshine and cool nights.
