Clark
is a tiny town located in Routt County in the northwestern part of the state. Nearby recreational opportunities abound at the Steamboat Lake State Park, Pearl Lake State Park, the Stagecoach and Elkhead Reservoirs and the Routt National Forest. Clark sits at an elevation of 7,271 feet, and is situated surrounded by magnificent mountain vistas and acres upon acres of pristine forest and ranch lands. Approximately 50 percent of Routt County is publicly owned, with the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest making up a large portion of the county. This includes the Sarvis Creek and Mt. Zirkel Wilderness areas. Offering both solitude and adventure, this area is a nature lovers dream. Popular activities include fishing, boating, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, camping and skiing. Of the many mountain lakes and streams in the area, the most well-known are Pearl and Steamboat Lakes, both man made and developed in the 1960s. The nearby town of Steamboat Springs is home to a world-class ski resort, and the whole county is filled with events year round, including the Routt County Fair & Rodeo, usually held in August. This old-fashioned family event includes nine days of rodeo, music and dancing, pie contests, livestock shows, tractor pulls, rides and more.

The extreme northwest corner of Colorado has a rugged topography, which causes large variations in climate within short distances. At mountain summits, temperatures remain low, averaging less than 32 degrees F. Snow-covered mountain peaks have frigid nighttime temps, occasionally as low as 50 degrees F. below zero. Summer in this region is mild and refreshing. The average temperature in summer is around 60 degrees F. Precipitation west of the Continental Divide is more evenly distributed throughout the year than in the eastern plains. For most of western Colorado, winter is the wettest season and June is the driest month. When there is sudden warming in the spring at the higher elevations, snow melt may cause extensive flooding.
