Fort-Collins
is a Home Rule Municipality located along the Cache La Poudre River in north-central Colorado. It's the largest city, by population, in Larimer County, with 143,986 residents. Fort Collins is about 57 miles north of Denver. The city is well for being home to Colorado State University, and it supports six microbreweries. The largest beer brewer in the world, Anheuser-Busch, is located just northeast of the city. Fort Collins was named "Best Place to Live in the U.S." in 2006 by Money Magazine. It ranked #2 in 2008 and #6 in 2010 in the same category. The city's culture and atmosphere is greatly influenced by the college. Several festivals are held in Fort Collins' Historic Downtown District each year, including the NewWest Fest, which includes great music and local cuisine. The Colorado Brewers Festival is held in late June and features beers from as many as 45 brewers from the state of Colorado and averages over 30,000 attendees. The Fort Collins Lincoln Center is a center for the arts and includes the 1,180-seat Performance Hall and the 220-seat Magnolia Theatre, four exhibit galleries, an outdoor sculpture and performance garden. The Fort Collins Symphony, Opera Fort Collins, Canyon Concert Ballet, Larimer Chorale, Foothills Pops Band and the Fort Collins Childrens Theatre are just a few of the organizations that perform at the center regularly. Other attractions include the Fort Collins Museum, which focuses on the culture and history of the area, with over 30,000 artifacts in permanent and temporary exhibits.

Northwestern Colorado is mostly mountainous, with some desert lands. Generally, the climate can be described as highland alpine mountain. Having the highest average elevation in the United States, combined with complex topography, results in dramatic climate changes from place to place. Northwest Colorado has a distinct four-season climate with cold, snowy winters and mild summers. In years when snow cover is heavy at high elevations, or when there is a sudden warming in the spring at high elevations, flooding may be a problem. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Hail is common in the northwest part of the state. Autumn means crisp, dry days with lots of sunshine and cool nights. Spring and autumn weather can change rapidly.
