Estes-Park
is considered to be the eastern "Gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park." Located at 7,522 feet above sea level, this beautiful mountain community is about 90 minutes from downtown Denver. Entry routes to the community are from the towns of Loveland, Ft. Collins, Longmont, Boulder and Denver. Between Memorial Day to mid-October, Estes Park is also accessible from the west by way of the Trail Ridge Road (or U.S. Highway 34.) Snowcapped peaks that range from 8,500 feet to more than 14,000 feet above sea level surround this high mountain village. Miles of hiking trails and scenic drives are in the area, including the Trail Ridge Road over the Continental Divide and the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway (Colorado's oldest scenic byway.) The scenery in this region is so spectacular; many consider it to be "quintessential Colorado." Outdoor activities abound in Estes Park, including world class hiking, rock climbing, fishing, river rafting, horseback riding, mountain biking and skiing. Estes Park has two golf courses, and miniature golf is another family favorite activity. Estes Park also offers a wide variety of restaurants and shopping choices, as well as art galleries, museums and theater. Free outdoor entertainment is available in summer and special events are held all throughout the year, such as the Jazz Fest in May and the "Catch the Glow" celebration during the winter holidays.

North-central Colorado has a semi-arid, continental climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. It's a common misconception that due to its close proximity to the high elevations, that north-central Colorado has harsh winters. This is not entirely true. While there may be occasional bitter temperatures, storms do not last long. Periods of snow alternate with mild periods. Oftentimes, the snow quickly melts during the day. The hottest months are July and August with an average high temperature of 74 degrees. The coldest month is January with an average temperature of 30 degrees. This region has four distinct seasons, and being along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains means weather patterns are subject to rapid, volatile, yet brief changes.
