Red-Feather-Lakes
is a charming mountain village located 45 miles northwest of Fort Collins, 10 miles south of the Wyoming border and 100 miles north of Denver. The village is built around a series of scenic mountain lakes and is surrounded by the mountains of the Roosevelt National Forest. The area is home to approximately 525 year round residents and is a favorite vacation spot for many tourists. The small village of Red Feather Lakes offers several restaurants, quaint shops, a post office, elementary school and rental cabins. The surrounding area is filled with wildlife including deer, elk, bear, mountain lions and several species of birds. Six of the fourteen lakes in the area are open to the public for trout fishing and boating. The National Forest offers horseback riding, hiking, biking, white water rafting, off-road vehicle roads, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing. The Red Feather Lakes area is a photographers dream, and includes the magnificent Poudre Canyon, the Wild & Scenic Poudre River, the high country of North Park and the historic town of LaPorte. The Rawah Wilderness Area, which is one of the most spectacular areas within the Roosevelt National Forest, is comprised of over 25,000 acres of rugged mountain peaks, alpine lakes and streams. The Cache La Poudre River is Colorado's first National Wild and Scenic River and provides exceptional recreational activities year-round. Nearby Fort Collins is home to Colorado State University.

North-central Colorado has a semi-arid, continental climate with cold, dry winters and hot, wet summers. On average, this area receives just over 17 inches of rain per year. Snowfall averages 60 inches per year, but many times the snow quickly melts during the daylight hours. Temperatures in winter are cold, but usually not bitterly cold. As with most of Colorado, the climate is termed as highland or mountain climate. Humidity is normally quite low, which means it feels cool, even on hot days. Warm, moist air from the south most frequently moves into the area during spring, causing thunderstorms. Frequent showers and thunderstorms continue well into summer. There may also be hot, dry spells in summer.
