Eagle
is the county seat for Eagle County, located in the beautiful Eagle Valley, which is in the rolling western hills of Colorado. The town has a population of around 3,000 and is near the Brush Creek Valley, which is considered the gateway to Sylvan Lake State Park. Wintertime activities in Eagle include ice fishing, skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. The town of Eagle has several ice skating rinks and trails, and it's a short drive to the world-class ski resorts at Vail and Beaver Creek. The Valley has some of the best weather in the region during spring and summer and offers countless outdoor recreational opportunities (Eagle county is more than 80 percent wilderness.) Enjoy activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, camping, kayaking and rafting and golf. For cultural events, the nearby Ford Amphitheater is host to many shows, orchestras, ballets and concerts. Heading east from the town of Eagle, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach Vail and about two hours to Denver. Heading westbound, it's 30 minutes to Glenwood Springs and two hours to Grand Junction. Colorado Highway 6 travels along the Eagle River connecting many of the valleys towns and Colorados 10th Mountain Division Memorial Scenic Highway to Leadville.

Eagle Weather & Climate

Northwestern Colorado is mostly mountainous, with some desert lands. Generally, the area has a highland mountain climate. Having the highest average elevation in the United States, combined with complex topography, results in dramatic climate changes from place to place. A general rule of thumb is the higher the elevation, the lower the temperature with an increase in precipitation. Northwest Colorado has a distinct four-season climate with cold, snowy winters and mild summers. In years when snow cover is heavy at high elevations, or when there is a sudden warming in the spring at high elevations, flooding may be a problem. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Hail is also common in the northwest part of the state. Autumn means crisp, dry days with lots of sunshine and cool nights.
