Snowmass-Village
is located in Pitkin County in the west-central region of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,826. Snowmass Village, also referred to simply as "Snowmass," is a popular winter ski resort in the Snowmass ski area, which is the largest of the four ski areas known collectively as Aspen/Snowmass. Snowmass mountain has the second most vertical feet of any skiing area in the United States. The other ski areas in the region include Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands, which altogether total over 4,500 acres of groomed terrain. Snowmass Village is a "ski-in ski-out" village located only six miles from the Aspen Airport. It's also easily accessed by shuttle service from Denver. Some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world can be found at Snowmass, along with an array of other activities for non-skiers. Called a "premier multi-season family oriented Rocky Mountain resort," Snowmass Village is located just minutes down the road from the more cosmopolitan resort of Aspen. Lodging in Snowmass Village ranges from full service hotels to luxurious condos and slopeside vacation rental homes. World class shopping, dining and nightlife are also available. In summer, outdoor activities include fishing, hiking, whitewater rafting and mountain biking. The area is also host to several special events throughout the year, such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Snowmass Rodeo, which runs all summer long, and the Chili Pepper & Brew Fest, usually held in June. The "Fall in Love with Aspen/Snowmass" is a nine-day celebration in the month of September that includes an Oktoberfest, the Snowmass Village Balloon Festival and a Wine and Food Festival.

Snowmass Village Weather & Climate

Central Colorado has a more complex climate than most states in the United States. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely different weather depending on the topography of the area. The valleys are classified as a semi-arid, continental climate, which becomes a mountain or alpine climate at higher elevations. Humid microclimates may also exist in some places. Abundant sunshine and low humidity is typical in all areas. Summers are mild to warm, and thunderstorms can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters are cold and snowy, especially in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Solar radiation penetrates the thin atmosphere high in the mountains, which results in very pleasant temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers are often pictured in very light clothing, even though they're surrounded by snow.
