Snowmass
is a "ski-in ski-out" village located only six miles from the Aspen Airport and just over an hour from Eagle Airport. It's also easily accessed by shuttle service from Denver. Some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world can be found at Snowmass, along with an array of other activities for non-skiers. Called a "premier multi-season family oriented Rocky Mountain resort," Snowmass is a pristine alpine village located just minutes down the road from the cosmopolitan resort of Aspen. It's one of four ski areas in the region, including Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands, which altogether total over 4,500 acres of groomed terrain. Lodging in Snowmass ranges from full service hotels to luxurious condos and slopeside vacation rental homes. World class shopping, dining and nightlife is also available. In summer, outdoor activities include fishing, hiking, whitewater rafting and mountain biking. The area is also host to several special events throughout the year, such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Snowmass Rodeo, which runs all summer long, and the Chili Pepper & Brew Fest, usually held in June. The "Fall in Love with Aspen/Snowmass" is a nine-day celebration in the month of September that includes an Oktoberfest, the Snowmass Village Balloon Festival and a Wine and Food Festival.

Northwestern Colorado has a highland, alpine mountain cliamte. Having the highest average elevation in the United States, combined with complex topography, results in dramatic climate changes from place to place. A general rule of thumb is the higher the elevation, the lower the temperature with an increase in precipitation. Northwest Colorado has snowy winters and mild summers. In years when snow cover is heavy at high elevations, or when there is a sudden warming in the spring at high elevations, flooding may be a problem. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Hail is common in the northwest part of the state. Autumn means crisp, dry days with lots of sunshine and cool nights. Spring and autumn weather can change rapidly.
