Louisville
is a town in Boulder County, Colorado in the north-central part of the state. The population is approximately 19,000 residents. Louisville is about six miles east of the city of Boulder and 25 miles northwest of Denver. The city of Louisville has consistently been ranked first on CNN/Money Magazine's list of "100 best places to live in the United States," as recently as 2009 and 2011. Louisville began in 1877 as a rough-and-tumble mining town. When the mines closed in the 1950s, the town became a residential bedroom community for the nearby cities of Boulder and Denver. For recreation, Louisville offers 1800 acres of open space, 26 city parks and 26 miles of hiking and biking trails. A historical complex in the city consists of four buildings, which were constructed between 1904 and 1908. The main building, known as the Jacoe Store, features a variety of artifacts and photographs that tell the history and industry of Louisville. One of the smaller buildings, Tomeo House, has been redesigned as a coal miner's house of the era. Both buildings are listed on the Louisville Register of Historic Places. You'll also want to visit the old-fashioned ice-skating rink in the historic downtown area. Special events in Louisville include Street Faire, held on Friday evenings during the summer, and Fall Festival held on Labor Day weekend.

North-central Colorado has a semi-arid, continental climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. It's a common misconception that due to its close proximity to the mountains and world-class skiing, that north-central Colorado has harsh winters. This is not entirely true. While there may be occasional bitter temperatures, storms do not last long. Periods of snow alternate with mild periods. The snow quickly melts with the mild daytime winter temperatures. The hottest months are July and August with an average high temperature of 74 degrees. The coldest month is January with an average temperature of 30 degrees. This region has four distinct seasons, and being along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains means weather patterns are subject to rapid, volatile, yet brief changes.
