Boulder
is nestled in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains about 35 miles northwest of downtown Denver. It is approximately an hour from the Denver International Airport and an hour to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Boulder is also within a few hours drive of many of Colorado's most famous ski resorts. The population of the city is around 94,000 residents, in addition to approximately 25,000 University of Colorado students. As you drive into Boulder over the hill on Highway 36, you will see why it is dubbed "the city nestled between the mountains and reality." At 5,430 feet above sea level, the cityscape of Boulder lies on the vast open plains that meet the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Surrounded by natural beauty and with 300 days per year of sunshine, Boulder was rated "#1 Sports Town in America," and "Best Place to Be An Uberjock" by Outside Magazine. A sixteen-mile path runs through the heart of this city where scenic bike paths are preferred to highways, and rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, fly-fishing, rafting and skiing are all available. In addition to being an outdoor enthusiast's paradise, Boulder also offers an incredible array of dining choices, shopping, museums and nightlife. Special events are held year round, including the "Annual Boulder Bach Festival," the "Boulder Creek Festival" and "Lights of December Parade."

North-central Colorado has a semi-arid, continental climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. It's a common misconception that due to its close proximity to the mountains and world-class skiing, that north-central Colorado has harsh winters. This is not entirely true. While there may be occasional bitter temperatures, storms do not last long. Periods of snow alternate with mild periods. The snow quickly melts with the mild daytime winter temperatures. The hottest months are July and August with an average high temperature of 74 degrees. The coldest month is January with an average temperature of 30 degrees. This region has four distinct seasons, and being along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains means weather patterns are subject to rapid, volatile, yet brief changes.
