Glenwood-Springs
is nestled in a mountainous valley on the western slope of Colorado, about 40 miles north of Aspen and 150 miles west of Denver. The town is known worldwide for its' landmark hot springs pool and lodge that sits on a hillside just a few blocks from the heart of town. Called "the world's largest outdoor hot springs pool," the Ute Indians considered the Yampah Hot Springs a sacred healing spot for hundreds of years. The springs were purchased by a group of British investors in the late 1800s who built a lodge and set out to market the hot springs in the newly established town of Glenwood Springs. Today, there is a 107-room lodge just north of the pool, and the original sandstone lodge now houses the snack bar, athletic club and offices. Guests come to the Hot Springs Pool to relax in the warm waters that continuously rise up from deep within the earth, or you can enjoy a diving pool, lap pool and waterslides. There is also a special kiddie pool at Hot Springs. The town of Glenwood Springs also offers eclectic shopping, museums, art galleries and restaurants of almost every kind of cuisine imaginable. Other attractions in the area include the gravesite of Doc Holliday, the Fairy Caves, Glenwood Canyon, Hanging Lake and Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. World class skiing is available at nearby Aspen, Snowmass or Vail, and other outdoor recreation includes kayaking, fishing, mountain and rock climbing, backpacking, whitewater rafting and golf.

Northwestern Colorado has a highland, alpine mountain cliamte. Having the highest average elevation in the United States, combined with complex topography, results in dramatic climate changes from place to place. A general rule of thumb is the higher the elevation, the lower the temperature with an increase in precipitation. Northwest Colorado has snowy winters and mild summers. In years when snow cover is heavy at high elevations, or when there is a sudden warming in the spring at high elevations, flooding may be a problem. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Hail is common in the northwest part of the state. Autumn means crisp, dry days with lots of sunshine and cool nights. Spring and autumn weather can change rapidly.
