Frisco
is located in the heart of Summit County along the shores of Lake Dillon, high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, near the Copper Mountain ski area. It's a charming, small town that is encircled by the Arapahoe National Forest. This all combines to make Frisco a hub of activity and a year round vacation destination. The town of Frisco offers elegant dining or take out, and diverse shopping along its' two retail corridors - Main Street and Summit Boulevard. Just six miles west of Frisco on Interstate 70 is Copper Mountain, which offers over 2,400 acres of skiing and snowboarding terrain and lots of wintertime fun. Frisco is also home to an 18-hole golf course that is free to the public, and just a half-mile south of town on Highway 9 is the Peninsula Recreation Area. The Peninsula contains several campgrounds, picnic facilities, a skateboard park, a disc golf course, a multi-purpose field and an extensive trail system. In winter, the Peninsula is a playground for cross-country skiers and snowshoeing enthusiasts. The 3,300-acre Dillon Reservoir (Lake Dillon) has twenty-five miles of pine forested shoreline that lies in the shadow of the Swan, Gore and Ten Mile Mountain Ranges. At the reservoir, you will find a full service marina, boat rentals, scenic boat tours, canoe and kayak lessons and the Marina Park. The town of Frisco is also home to an annual Barbecue Challenge, usually held in June.

Frisco Weather & Climate

Central Colorado has a more complex climate than most states in the United States. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely different weather depending on the topography of the area. The valleys are classified as a semi-arid, continental climate, which becomes a mountain or alpine climate at higher elevations. Humid microclimates may also exist in some places. Abundant sunshine and low humidity is typical in all areas. Summers are mild to warm, and thunderstorms can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters are cold and snowy, especially in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Solar radiation penetrates the thin atmosphere high in the mountains, which results in very pleasant temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers are often pictured in very light clothing, even though they're surrounded by snow.
