Telluride is a rustic, Victorian village set in a "U-shaped" valley in Colorado's magnificent San Juan Mountains. Surrounded by 13,000-foot mountain peaks, the village is just six blocks wide and twelve blocks long and is filled with the colorful legends of the Old West. Due to its significant role in the history of the American West, the core area of the town is a designated National Historic Landmark District. The streets of Telluride are filled with Victorian-era homes, unique boutiques and art galleries and fine restaurants. Located at the east end of town is Bridal Veil Falls, a crystal-clear waterfall that plummets over 365 feet (making it the tallest free falling waterfall in Colorado.) In summertime, Telluride hosts several festivals and special events, such as the highly acclaimed Telluride Film Festival. In fact, the town hosts so many festivals, it has earned the title of "Festival Capital of the Rockies." Telluride is linked to neighboring Mountain Village by a breathtaking 13-minute gondola ride that serves as public transportation, as well as providing free access to hiking and biking trails in the area.

Telluride Weather & Climate

Southwest Colorado has a four-season alpine climate. This region is on the Western Slope of the Continental Divide at 7,200 feet above sea level. The combination of high desert plateau and Rocky Mountains to the north and east create an unusually mild climate. Temperatures here are much cooler in the summer than most of the surrounding southwestern United States. The area is also blessed with 300 days of sunshine per year. The climate of Colorado, in general, is difficult to describe because it varies so widely from place to place. The climate of any particular place in this region is profoundly affected by differences in elevation, and to a lesser degree, by the orientation of mountain ranges and valleys and wind direction. Wide variations occur within short distances.
