Morrison is a tiny town of approximately 400 residents located in Jefferson County about 30 minutes from downtown Denver. However, despite its close proximity to the Denver metro area, its quite secluded due to its location on the west side of the Hogback Rock Formation. At 5800 feet elevation, Morrison feels like a remote mountain town, which earns it the name "The Nearest Faraway Place." The town is most well known for being at the base of the winding Beer Creek Canyon near the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater. It also makes a great base for exploring the many hiking/biking trails that run through the Jefferson County Open Space Parks. Despite its small size, the town of Morrison has lots to offer visitors, including several world class restaurants and shops situated along historic Bear Creek Avenue and two cozy bed and breakfast inns. The town is also home to the Morrison Natural History Museum and Dinosaur Ridge where natural history buffs will be enthralled with the exposed dinosaur prints and interesting geographic features. Whether as a day trip from Denver or as a base for exploring the entire Red Rocks region, Morrison is a charming, picturesque town to visit. To reach Morrison, travel 17 miles west of Denver on Colorado C470 and Morrison Road.

Morrison Weather & Climate

North-central Colorado has a semi-arid, continental climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. It's a common misconception that due to its close proximity to the mountains and world-class skiing, that north-central Colorado has harsh winters. This is not entirely true. While there may be occasional bitter temperatures, storms do not last long. Periods of snow alternate with mild periods. The snow quickly melts with the mild daytime winter temperatures. The hottest months are July and August with an average high temperature of 74 degrees. The coldest month is January with an average temperature of 30 degrees. This region has four distinct seasons, and being along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains means weather patterns are subject to rapid, volatile, yet brief changes.
