Pueblo is one of the largest cities in south-central Colorado and the most populous city in Pueblo County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 106,595. It lies at the confluence of the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek, about 43 miles south of Colorado Springs. Pueblo is the hub of the region, an important community of the Front Range Urban Corridor and one of the largest steel-producing cities in the United States. Many people are familiar with Pueblo due to the city's hosting of the Colorado State Fair each year in late summer. Pueblo also hosts an annual Chili Festival and the National Street Rod Association's Rocky Mountain Street Rod Nationals (for the past 23 years.) For outdoor fun, scenic Lake Pueblo offers over 4,600 surface acres of water, 60 miles of shoreline with beautiful mountain views to the north and southwest. Full service marinas and a variety of campsites are available at the lake, along with fishing, boating, sailing, waterskiing, hiking, biking and picnicking. Other attractions in the city include the Pueblo Zoo, the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk, the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo, El Pueblo State Historical Museum, the Steelworks Museum, Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, Pueblo Motorsports and the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial. The Sangre de Cristo Arts/Conference Center has served Pueblo and the surrounding counties since 1972. It offers high-quality art exhibitions, performing arts, dance arts, an award-winning children's museum, comprehensive arts educational programming, and space for meetings and special events.

Pueblo Weather & Climate

South-central is a complex mix of mountains and desert. Since Colorado is a mid-latitude interior continental state, and has the highest elevations in the United States, weather can change dramatically from place to place. The state has one of the most complex climates in the nation. Southern Colorado is not always warmer than the northern part of the state, due to the elevation. Generally, the mountainous areas are cooler and wetter than lower elevations. Winters are cold and snowy, and summers are warm with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Nights anytime of the year can be crisp in Colorado. Humidity is usually not a problem. Southern Colorado receives 300 days of sunshine per year. So, although there is plenty of snow in the wintertime, except at the highest elevations, it usually melts by mid-day.
