Limon is a small town located in Lincoln County in the eastern plains of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,880 residents. Although small, Limon is the most populous town in Lincoln County. The town is home to the Limon Correctional Facility, which is one of the major employers of the area. Limon is considered the "Hub City" of Eastern Colorado due to its' central location and because Interstate 70, U.S. Highways 24,40 and 287 and State Highways 71 and 86 all pass through the town. Attractions in the town include eight vintage windmills, located in the town's two-block Railroad Park. Each windmill is a historic reminder of the early settlers harnessing of the wind to bring water to the plains, and gives visitors a look at Limons heritage. Antique farm machinery is also on display in the park. Another Limon attraction, the Pioneer Schoolhouse provides a glimpse into the past, and what it was like for schoolchildren on the prairie. This one-room schoolhouse is furnished as it was used in the old days, with wood and cast iron desks, old photographs and books, and a wood burning stove in the center of the room. The town of Limon is also home to a Museum Complex that includes several beautiful gardens, including Rose, Prairie, Sculpture and Pioneer areas tended by volunteers, youth groups and retired gardeners.
